Great news! I finally got a new flash unit for my camera. It’s an SB-600, which means it can work with the camera to automatically determine the amount of light it should output - very handy in situations where you don’t have a lot of time to set-up and stand around taking test shots (such as weddings). I’m really excited about testing it out and getting out there and doing some more photography work. I’m still in the process of setting up my dedicated photography website and having business cards made. In the meantime, if you know anyone who needs portraits or a photographer, consider sending them my way!

An amazing blog post by Lisa Bettany, who is exceptionally qualified to write such a post, because she spends a great deal of time both in front of and behind the camera. As a Model and photographer, Lisa offers an insightful list of tips and advice for anyone aspiring to photograph models. Heed the words of one with personal and professional experience!
I know it has been a long time since my last post, but I think I’ve only just started to recover from last Saturday. Don’t get me wrong, Saturday was awesome! I had such a great time, but it was exhausting! I woke up early and went to downtown Atlanta to participate in Scott Kelby’s Worldwide Photo Walk. While I was there, I spent about 3 hours walking around the Fairlie Poplar district with a group of about 35 other photographers and took hundreds of photos (many of which I like very much).
Then, immediately after that (actually, a little later than I thought, because I only expected the photo walk to run for 2 hours), I had to rush home to change and go to a wedding. A friend of mine had asked me to assist him with a friend’s wedding he was photographing that afternoon/evening, and I jumped at the opportunity, because I’m interested in photographing weddings, but have no previous experience. So, I made it to the church just in time to start walking the location (mini-scouting for good photo places) and setting up for all the pictures of the ceremony. After that, we drove to the reception and continued to photograph there.
Needless to say, I was exhausted after all that walking. Shooting a wedding is actually a lot of work - much more than I expected. Even so, I’m really looking forward to the next time I will be able to do it.
If you’d like to see my favourites of the photos I took on the Photo Walk, I’ve uploaded them to flickr. You can find that set at this link: [link]
I had a very strange dream last night in which I owned of a teapot made from a mysterious material. Someone in the dream was appalled that I was in possession of something made from this material (identified in the dream as “Melibnium,” which I think is some kind of alloy), because that material was “made before the universe began.” I guess the thought was, something of such ancient an ancient origin shouldn’t be used in a utilitarian application? I don’t know. I said it was a strange dream!
Now it seems work has really been keeping me busy. I haven’t even been taking as many pictures (but I’m sure that will change). Lately I’ve been spending my free time either relaxing or sleeping. I’ve got a lot on my to do list, but I don’t seem to be getting as much done as I’d like. It just seems to be a really hectic season. Hope everything is great for you, and hopefully I’ll be back to writing soon. Still looking forward to the redesign, although it’s not currently a high priority. Well, keep on truckin’. =)
